Vembu Technologies hosted Vembu Meet Mumbai, the second edition of its city-wise series on India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. Building on the Chennai edition, where leaders identified recovery testing and third-party risk as the biggest gaps facing Indian organisations, the Mumbai dialogue focused on what recovery readiness looks like in practice.
The event brought together CXOs, CISOs, IT leaders and industry practitioners. The programme featured a session on “Beyond Compliance – Building recovery readiness in the DPDP era”, a panel discussion titled “DPDP Compliance & Data Protection in Practice”; and a showcase of BDRShield and XDRShield, followed by dinner and networking.
The panel brought together Dr Deepak Kalambkar, Director, Cybersecurity & CISO, BCAN Cybersecurity Consulting & Professional Services, Dr Mukesh Mehta ,BFSI Technology Leader Sandiip Kothaari, PhD Chief Operating Officer & Chief Technology Officer Laser Securities Yogesh Rajawat, CISO and Head IT, Axium Global and Bhavani Shanmugam, Product Manager, Vembu Technologies, moderated the session.
The discussion covered how organisations can fold DPDP requirements into existing security and compliance frameworks, manage risk across third-party vendors and data ecosystems; and coordinate their response to a data breach. It also took in ransomware recovery readiness, the data protection implications of AI adoption and the challenge of winning management support for investment in data protection and recovery.
The Mumbai edition brought together senior leaders and IT decision-makers from the BFSI, manufacturing, logistics and healthcare sectors.
The event also saw the unveiling of DPDP Explained, a book from Vembu Technologies created to help Indian businesses understand the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025; and prepare for them.
Speaking about the series, Sekar Vembu, Founder and CEO, Vembu Technologies said, “Data protection is no longer about storing data safely. It is about whether a business can keep running when something goes wrong. A defined RTO and RPO only mean something if they are verified, and recovery readiness has to be a continuous discipline, not an annual exercise. As AI changes how businesses operate and the risks they face, resilience and continuity will matter far more than the backup itself. That is why Vembu Meet is about moving the DPDP conversation beyond compliance and towards recovery readiness.”
Nagarajan Chandrasekaran, VP, Product Management, Vembu Technologies added, “The themes at Mumbai kept pointing to the same thing: ransomware, third-party exposure, breach response and AI adoption all end in one question, which is how quickly and how reliably you can recover. That starts with proper RTO and RPO targets that are tested rather than assumed, verified recovery points, and security and backup that work together, so that recovery begins as soon as an attack is detected. None of it happens without management support. Leadership has to see recovery readiness as a business investment, not an IT cost, and that is the conversation the DPDP era demands.”
Vembu Meet continues in Coimbatore on October 30, 2026, the next stop in the company’s pan-India dialogue.
