GE Vernova Displays its Advanced Energy Innoation and Research Centre

GE Vernova  hosted the grand opening of its expanded Advanced Research Centre Frontier Campus in Niskayuna, New York. This is the company’s long-term strategy to advance energy innovation and develop technologies that support a more reliable, affordable and secure energy future.

The expanded campus is part of a broader investment of more than USD 110 million by GE Vernova and the State of New York and is expected to create 75 new research positions.

“Meeting the world’s growing demand for electricity will require breakthrough innovation at an unprecedented pace, and that is the fundamental goal of this best-in-class facility” said Scott Strazik, CEO, GE Vernova. “These investments and new jobs reinforce our commitment to serving as an industry leader by bringing together exceptional talent, cutting-edge research, and close collaboration with customers to build the technologies powering the future.”

The Frontier Campus is designed to give customers, researchers, government stakeholders and collaborators a closer look at how advanced research can move from concept to practical application. During the grand opening, guests toured six featured technology stops that reflect the breadth of GE Vernova’s research efforts and their relevance to real-world energy and industrial needs.

Those technologies included Direct Air Capture, where guests saw a research unit designed to capture carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere using a sorbent-based process; AirJoule, a joint-venture created technology that captures water vapor from air and converts it into high-purity distilled water for potential industrial, cooling, and drinking water applications; and a wing-to-wing data center power simulation, an interactive simulation and testing platform designed to help utilities and technology providers manage rapidly growing data center power demand while supporting grid reliability.

Additional tour stops featured Robotics and AI-based Inspection, where robotic assistants and AI-enabled systems demonstrate new ways to improve safety, maintenance, quality, and productivity; materials science for advanced manufacturing, highlighting inspection and discovery tools that can improve the efficiency, durability, and performance of next-generation energy technologies; and advanced power conversion technologies including solid-state transformers and the requisite next generation controls and advanced cooling technologies, enabling a power electronics-based technology that can offer greater flexibility, resilience, and control for future grid networks.

Together, these displays were designed to show that the work happening at GE Vernova’s Advanced Research Center; focused on practical technologies that can help address rising electricity demand, strengthen infrastructure, improve industrial productivity, support decarbonisation; and enable a more resilient energy system.

“The Frontier Campus gives our teams the space, tools, and collaborative environment they need to translate advanced research into practical technologies,” said Dave Vernooy, VP, GE Vernova’s Advanced Research Centre. “What is happening here is about more than science alone. It is about building solutions that can help address some of the most important energy and industrial challenges ahead.”

The grand opening included remarks from GE Vernova leadership and government representatives, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and guided tours of the new facility and featured technologies.
